Term Isolated in microstock language
0
I am not the biggest fan of isolations, but thanks to my three years of experience as a buyer and author, I am qualified enough to write about them. So…
“Isolate” / Isolated in stock language refers to an image of an object without shadows, from which the background can be easily removed. So, when you use this word in the title, description, or keywords, you need to ensure that you are describing a well-lit, contrasting object against a flat, monochromatic background.
“Isolate/Isolated” means that the buyer can remove or change the background faster than in a couple of minutes.
And let me remind you of the rest of the space around the image. A white background does not mean a large space of white.
“Isolate/Isolated” MUST NOT contain any shadows or reflections of the object in the background, or images of the object on a real natural background (clouds, water, grass, etc.).
For inexperienced designers, isolation is not such a simple task. And as the microstock market grows every day, we are already selling images not just to professionals.
Try to make your work more appealing to most buyers by effectively isolating the “isolate.”
You can find many tutorials and tips on how to isolate objects by browsing blogs or just bulletin boards. Here are some particularly useful ones:
Of course, a nice little reflection under the object can sometimes make the photo more attractive, but the main quality that all stock images for sale should possess is usefulness for the buyer.
Try to focus on this because no one will buy just a pretty picture if it can’t be used anywhere.
Soon, we at Dreamstime stock will begin checking already uploaded images that have the keyword “isolated” in their descriptions. So, it wouldn’t hurt for all authors to review their portfolios for works that use this term and check them for compliance.
If the image is not fully isolated, then remove this word from all fields (title, description, and keywords).
This will allow the search engine to yield more relevant results and hopefully, over time, attract more buyers, which means more sales for everyone.
