Newcomers to stock photography might be surprised to see this section’s title. Here’s the reasoning: some stock sites have free sections where you can either directly upload or submit your photos and illustrations for free distribution. Why is this helpful?
Have you noticed that at a certain stage in working with stock photo sites, there comes a point when you keep adding new works, but the number of sales stays about the same? For example, you have 2,000-2,100 sales on a stock site per month, and it just won’t go any higher. It’s clear that with persistence and consistently adding new works over time (2-3 months), a jump is possible. However, many microstockers, upon reaching a high level, find themselves stuck at this plateau, struggling to move to the next level and achieve another BME (Best Month Ever).
After I started working with stock agencies and monitoring my sales, I began to wonder, “How can I increase my sales volume on stock agencies?” All microstockers surely ponder similar thoughts at some point.
At the end of 2009, the photo bank Depositphotos emerged online. As far as I could find out, Depositphotos is a project by the creators of the file-sharing service Depositfiles. The file-sharing service is well known worldwide for its stability and various promotions, and it has earned a deserved popularity because of this. I believe that the microstock Depositphotos is destined for no less successful fate.
So, here you are, registered on the photo bank Dreamstime. And… what’s next, you may ask? Next, you need to start the actual process of working on Dreamstime. This means you need to learn how to upload your photos and illustrations to the photo bank, learn to correctly describe (attribute) them, choose the right category, navigate your account menu on Dreamstime, and ultimately, when you earn the minimum amount for withdrawal, learn how to withdraw your money from the Dreamstime photo bank.
Happy New Year 2010 to everyone! Wishing you strong health, lots of luck, and success in the Year of the Tiger! And, of course, great success in your work on photobanks, with fewer unpleasant surprises!
Now, onto the gifts from Fotolia, though they aren’t exactly pleasant. The first photobank to “delight” us in the new year is Fotolia. First, Fotolia changed its rates not in favor of microstockers, and second, it started withholding the promised tax on American sales. So, let’s dive into each “gift box” in more detail.
