Depositphotos Stock Bank: The Freebie Is Over, Time to Work

Well, what has been talked about for a long time has finally happened. The freebie at DP is over. The stock bank Depositphotos officially discontinued its program to incentivize stock photographers on April 1, 2010. Why did this happen? This shutdown is quite logical, as according to the information posted on the stock bank, the volume of the photo and illustration database has already exceeded 1 million works.

Imagine, the DP stock bank built its database in just about four months. For a clearer comparison, I can remind you that the volume of the database at SS is 10 million. However, the quality of the DP database is not the best, as they initially accepted everything and, understandably, a lot of trash ended up there. I’m glad that I managed to collect all the bonuses from the incentive program by DP. 🙂

So what will happen now with the DP stock bank? As far as I can imagine, the focus will now be on attracting new buyers and various incentives for them. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the stock bank to achieve an increase in its database from the current level. Because the current sales level at DP is clearly limping. And stock photographers will certainly have less interest in replenishing their portfolios on DP than before. Although, of course, there is still some increase in sales on DP, but it’s happening at a very slow pace.

At least, in the first half of March, the average sales volume at DP was about 500 sales per day. Agree, for a stock bank with a database of 1 million works, this is quite scant. Moreover, it is unknown how many of these sales were real, and not test sales from DP itself. It’s now difficult to assess the sales volume there, as the DP stock bank no longer displays sales information.

In general, I believe that working with the DP stock bank can certainly be tried, but it shouldn’t be placed as a top priority among stock banks for now. Otherwise, from time to time, you can update your portfolio. Who knows, the buyer incentive policy at DP might turn out to be successful, sales at the stock bank may pick up, and then stock photographers can consider DP among the leading stock banks for earning.
Happy Easter!
