The Shutterstock team is deeply invested in contributor success. In a new series of short notes from the inspection team, they will periodically share quick tips on how to become a top contributor on Shutterstock — insights drawn from daily experience reviewing thousands of submissions. Below is their first observation.

Shutterstock Inspector on 100% Image Zoom

When preparing a file for submission to the Shutterstock review team, it’s extremely helpful to examine the entire image at 100% zoom. At this magnification, technical flaws become clearly visible.

Pan across the image from corner to corner. Visually scan each segment for issues such as dust spots on the lens, scanning scratches, chromatic aberrations, noise, motion blur, oversharpening, and other defects.

The need for close inspection at high magnification comes from the fact that stock reviewers take author intent very seriously, and your image will be offered to buyers in multiple output sizes.

The agency enforces this standard because every file must look flawless regardless of how buyers intend to use it.

It’s crucial that an image remains free of visible defects at 100% zoom, since reviewers will evaluate it at that magnification after upload.

If you take the time to thoroughly check your photos, both the reviewers (and Shutterstock buyers) will be very grateful.
